About Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr MIU
Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr is on Ystrad Fawr Way in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, operated by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board as an Enhanced Local General Hospital. There is no A&E here — emergency care for Gwent is centralised at the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran. The on-site Minor Injury Unit is open every day from 7am to 1am (18 hours, including bank holidays); the last new patient is seen at 10pm and anyone arriving after that is redirected to another MIU. Patients are advised to "Think 111 First" before attending. The unit sees adults and children aged 1 and over with injuries less than four weeks old, including broken bones (fractures), sprains, bruises, wounds (stitching or gluing), small burns, bites, minor eye/ear/face/chest injuries, foreign-body removal and minor head injuries. Day surgery is provided on site (same-day operation and discharge), along with on-site X-ray, outpatient clinics and diagnostic services. The MIU does NOT treat serious or life-threatening problems such as chest pain or major trauma — for these always call 999 or attend the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran (~10 miles east). Current Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr MIU waiting times are tracked here in real time, sourced from the NHS Wales feed and Aneurin Bevan UHB.

How Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr MIU compares to nearby hospitals
Within Wales, Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Minor Injuries Unit is one of several urgent and emergency care sites and sits inside the wider NHS Wales performance framework. National waiting-time data is published by StatsWales against the Welsh Government's standard that 95% of A&E attendances should be admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours; live snapshots on this page are sourced separately from the trust's own published feeds, so the figures here can be more current than the headline national release.
For Ystrad Mynach residents, the practical question is rarely "is Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr MIU fast?" but "compared to what?"
