Where our wait-time data comes from

A&E Wait Time is an independent, third-party site. We only show live waiting-time figures that NHS Trusts already publish on their own public web pages — with a link out to the original on every figure. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the NHS.

01

In short

  • We collect waiting-time figures from publicly available NHS Trust web pages — the same pages any member of the public can visit themselves.
  • We only display data the trust has already chosen to publish. We do not generate, model, predict or estimate wait times.
  • Every wait number on the site links back to the original NHS Trust page so you can verify it for yourself.
  • We are an independent, privately-run third party. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the NHS, NHS England, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales, HSC Northern Ireland, or any individual NHS Trust.
  • If a trust does not publish its own live waiting times, we do not list a wait time for it.

NHS Trust pages we read from

Below is the complete, automatically-generated list of every NHS Trust public web page we currently read live waiting-time data from. Each row links to the original trust page so you can cross-check any number on this site against the source.

The Live badge means the figure was published by the NHS Trust itself within the last hour. It does not guarantee the wait you experience on arrival; departments fluctuate minute-by-minute and the published figure may be out of date by the time you read it.

Run an NHS Trust with a public live waiting-time page?

If your trust publishes A&E, UTC or MIU waiting times on a publicly-accessible web page and you would like us to include them, please email hello@aewaittime.co.uk. We will not collect data from any page that disallows it in robots.txt or its terms of use.

What we deliberately do not do

  • We do not collect from third-party scrapers or aggregators. We always go directly to the NHS Trust’s own public web page. We do not republish wait times from other websites that themselves collect from NHS pages.
  • We do not crowdsource wait times from patients. Self-reported wait data from members of the public is statistically unreliable for an emergency department and we will not publish it as a wait figure.
  • We do not predict, model or estimate wait times. Every figure on the site is a number an NHS Trust has published itself. We do not run AI models, machine-learning forecasts or statistical estimates of how long a wait will be.
  • We do not access internal NHS systems. We only read publicly-accessible NHS Trust web pages. We do not request, hold or republish data from internal NHS systems, electronic patient record exports, SUS extracts or any non-public source.
  • We do not show wait times for trusts that do not publish them. Coverage is genuinely patchy because most NHS Trusts in the UK do not publish a public live waiting-time page. We will not invent a figure to fill the gap.
04

How often we re-read each page

We re-read every NHS Trust source page on a fixed schedule. Trusts publish new figures on their own cadence (most update roughly every 15 minutes); we never claim the figure is fresher than the trust’s own published timestamp.

NHS Trust live waiting-time pages

Re-read every 10 minutes. The figure shown always carries the trust’s own publication time, not ours.

Independence & non-affiliation

We want to be unambiguous about who we are and who we are not.

  • We are not the NHS A&E Wait Time is a privately-run, independent third-party website. We are not part of, contracted to, funded by, or in any way operated on behalf of the NHS, NHS England, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales, HSC Northern Ireland or any individual NHS Trust.

  • Not endorsed by NHS officials No NHS employee, NHS official, NHS Trust board or NHS-affiliated clinician has reviewed, endorsed or recommended this site. If that ever changes, we will publish names, registrations and review dates here.

  • We pass through, we do not edit We do not adjust, smooth, round or re-baseline what NHS Trusts publish. The figure on this site matches the figure on the trust page at the time of our last fetch.

  • Always linked back to the source Every wait-time figure on the site links to the original NHS Trust page so anyone can verify it.
