About Nevill Hall Hospital MIU
Nevill Hall Hospital is on Brecon Road in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, operated by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board as an Enhanced Local General Hospital. There is no A&E here — the original Emergency Department closed in November 2020 when consultant-led emergency care was centralised at the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran. The on-site Minor Injuries Unit is staffed by Emergency Nurse Practitioners and is open 18 hours a day, every day including bank holidays, from 7am to 1am. It treats adults and children aged 1 and over with broken bones (limbs), sprains, wounds, small burns and bites, minor eye and head injuries (no loss of consciousness or vomiting), plus suturing, plastering, tetanus vaccinations and on-site X-ray. Injuries must be less than four weeks old; the unit does NOT treat abdominal injuries, chest pain, mental health crises or overdoses, and patients needing A&E care are diverted or transferred to the Grange. "Think 111 First" before attending. Current Nevill Hall MIU waiting times are tracked here in real time, sourced from the NHS Wales feed and Aneurin Bevan UHB.

How Nevill Hall Hospital MIU compares to nearby hospitals
Within Wales, Nevill Hall Hospital Minor Injuries Unit is one of several urgent and emergency care sites and sits inside the wider NHS Wales performance framework. National waiting-time data is published by StatsWales against the Welsh Government's standard that 95% of A&E attendances should be admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours; live snapshots on this page are sourced separately from the trust's own published feeds, so the figures here can be more current than the headline national release.
For Abergavenny residents, the practical question is rarely "is Nevill Hall Hospital MIU fast?" but "compared to what?" Wait times at any single site can swing materially within a day, depending on staffing, ambulance arrivals and how full the wider hospital is. The nearest-alternatives section above lists the closest comparable sites, each with their own current wait — that side-by-side comparison is more useful than any single-site average.
For non-life-threatening issues, residents in Abergavenny and surrounding Wales may also have access to a Minor Injuries Unit or Urgent Treatment Centre with shorter waits for less serious conditions. NHS 111 Wales can confirm the appropriate service for your specific need before you travel.
